Arctic: The Major Scientific Challenges

Description:

The national conference "Arctic: The Major Scientific Challenges" will be held at the College de France from June the 3rd to the 6th, 2013.

This event is the kickoff of the French Arctic Workshop designed to set-up the guidelines of the scientific works of the French scientists.
The will of the Scientific Council of the Arctic Workshop and of Professor Edouard Bard, Collège de France, is to run a major gathering and consultation meeting for all that is about research in the frozen continent.
Challenges of this conference are important since it will allow to review the priorities of French research in the Arctic.

Planning:

The conference will be held from June the 3rd to teh 6th, in Paris.
Conference program:
- June the 3rd: Home and presentations of the results of recent French research campaigns in the Arctic. Intervention of Michel Rocard at 13:30.
- June the 4th: 3 themes will be covered: human impacts; Ecosystems & Biodiversity; Arctic Societies and knowledge systems
- June the 5th: 3 themes will be covered: Climate: Ocean-ice-atmosphere; Geodynamics and Natural Resources; Permafrost
- June the 6th, final day of the conference: the day will be devoted to the preparation of French scientific guidelines for the coming years. The detailed planning (pdf) can be seen by clicking here. The French Arctic Workshop has many members, such as the CNRS-INSU, CNRS-INEE, CNRS-INSHS, IPEV, Météo France, IFREMER, CNES, CEA, BRGM, University Pierre and Marie Curie and Versailles-Saint-Quentin).
