Caves of the Cazelle Rock

Domaine(s) : Archeology

Region : Aquitaine

Description:

Located in the valley of the Vezere which is registered as World Heritage by UNESCO, the cliff is one of the most impressive and of the most fascinating opportunity that we can see.

Overlooked by caves, houses and corridors of this troglodyte world which dug the cliff, the park will show you the world of prehistory.

You will scroll the time from prehistory, 12,000 years ago, until today (1966 exactly, when the last couple of farmers still lived there) with a longer stay at the time of the Middle Age.

A lot of scenes with many models show you how was the life at different times.

Planning:

It is necessary to spend at least half a day exploring this amazing park.

It is open all the year:
- From February to April and on October & November: from 10:00 to 18:00;
- In May, June & September: from 10:00 to 19:00;
- In July and August: from 10:00 to 20:00;
- In December & January: from 11:00 to 17:00.

Workshops are set up in the Summer, from July the 7th to August the 24th, daily except on Saturday, from 13:30 to 19:00. Disclaimer : The management team of the destination has the possibility to change the opening days and hours without prior communication.

Comments:

With the cave of Lascaux, also located along the Vezere, this river has a prehistoric history quite extraordinary!

Activities are organized for children in Summer (see schedule above) and you will learn painting, the art of flint knapping, fire the thruster and the difficult technique of lighting the fire.

Parking is free.
The visit is free without waiting.
The way to visit the place is accessible to strollers.
Dogs on leash are allowed.
A picnic area is also planned.

You'll be passionate to see in which geological environment the troglodyte people lived.

The multitude of species and plants will continue this scenery remained natural and that is completed by an important wildlife still existing: numerous species of birds (over 50) live in total freedom (birds are going from the peregrine falcon to starlings, not forgetting, of course, the wrens).
