ALMA radiotelescope ready to start

Copyright ESO

The European project ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/sub-millimeter Array) will deeply increase our knowledge of Universe.
This huge tool will be made per a network of 66 antennas and will be able to listen to the very first ages of Universe.

It has now enough antennas to start its first observations.
The 16th antenna of the network just joined the operation theatre, the desert plateau of Chajnantor, at 5000 meters high in the Andes in Chile, thanks to a special truck that carried it during 28 kilometers.
