More than 200 rock engravings and paintings are represented in the cave of Font de Gaume.

The frescoes date mainly from Chatelperronian (from -38,000 to -32,000 BC) and the Aurignacian (Upper Paleolithic, from -35,000 to -10,000 BC).

You will see in this cave one of the finest collections of polychrome still open to the public.

The tour lasts 1 hour.

It is necessary to book 15 days to one month in advance. Indeed, the number of visitors is limited to better preserve the paintings.

Reservation can be done at the home of Font de Gaume in Les Eyzies, at the +33 (0)5-53-06-86-00 (Tourist Office of Les Eyzies: +33 (0)5-53-06-97-05).

The tour is accessible for people with visual impairments.

The cave is open:
- From September the 16th to May the 14th: from 9:30 to 12:30 and from 14:00 to 17:30
- From May the 15th to September the 15th: from 09:30 to 17:30.
It is closed every Saturday, as well as on the 01/01, 05/01, 11/01, 11/11 and 12/25.

The tour is free for children under 18.
