The museum and the site of Lyon-Fourviere are located on the slopes of the hill of Fourviere, where was located the center of Lugdunum, that is to say where is the theater and the odeon.
These are now listed to world heritage by UNESCO.

So, rich of five centuries of discoveries, the museum shows all aspects of private and public life of a capital of the Roman Empire such as:
- The city,
- Men and Gods,
- Games,
- The economic capital,
- The artists and craftsmen.

Two to three hours can easily be passed in the museum and the archeological site.
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
It is closed on Mondays, on January the 1st, on May the 1st, on November the 1st and on December the 25th.

The archeological site is open every day of the week:
- From April the 15th to September the 15th from 7:00 to 21:00,
- from September the 16th to April the 14th: from 7:00 to 19:00.

Thanks to its inhabitants who are enthusiasts understanding the old ruins since the 16th century has helped to create the first collections and has helped to preserve of a large number of antiques.
