Located on the right side of the river the Rhone, the archaeological site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal exhibits the remains of a neighborhood of the Roman town of Vienne in a three hectares wide area.
Called Vienna at the Roman times, the capital ruled over a vast area covering the Dauphine and Savoy and spread of each side of the river.

The museum explains ideally the site and the visitor can then get all keys to understand his journey 2000 years in the past.

The museum shows collections following an ethnological approach via numerous reconstructions at small scale.
Thus, you will discover:
- The site and its history,
- The importance of the arrival of Roman culture, known as romanization, thanks to the mosaic of victorious athletes and wrestlers paintings of the Spa,
- The model of Vienna during the seconde century of our era,
- The craft, trade, works of the city and its economic importance,
- The Rhone, key element of the expansion of the city, of its communications and of its transports,
- A Roman house, room by room, area by area, which will detail the context and the everyday life of this time.

Saint-Romain-en-Gal is located at 33 km at the South of downtown of Lyon

From the center of Lyon, take the high way A7 to the South, go along the Oullins, Saint-Fons then Feyzin. Take the exit 9 direction to Valence, Vienne, Grenoble. Go through Vienne and continue on the road D1407, then on the N7-Quai Pajot, take to the right the road D502, exit from Vienne then reach Saint-Romain-en-Gal.

The visit of the museum and site can easily take half a day.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.

It is closed on Mondays, January the 1st, May the 1st, November the 1st and December the 25th.
