In its 2000m² wide place, the museum details the history of this army, from its creation in 1622.

You will know how this skilled army was created by Richelieu under Louis 13 and then how they participated in the conflicts all over the world.

The museum has also temporary exhibits.
The one shown from June 2013 to June 2014 is about the Marine Artillery from the 17th century until the 19th.

The visit takes about 2 hours.

The museum is open :

- From October to May from 14:00 to 18:00 ; closed every Tuesday and Saturday
- From June to September from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00 ; closed on Saturdays.

Annual closure: from December the 24th to january the 2nd.

The military evolution, French politics and techniques are put in parallel to the action of France all over the world and to the history of this army.

The museum is run by the Association of the Friends of the Marines (AAMTDM), has an important library centralised per the Center of History and Study of Outre-mer armies (CHETOM) which is located aside the museum.
The museum has a crypt to honore the French armies dead for France since four centuries.
