The museum is housed in the castle of Saint Germain en Laye, installed here by Napoleon III.
Renovated by Malraux, in this magnificent setting that is also this birthplace of Louis the XIVth, this museum is one of the finest on the early history and prehistory and has the finest collection of prehistoric art carved and engraved, including the famous and beautiful head of the Venus of Brassempouy.
