A major objective of the museum is to participate in the conservation of natural heritage.
The Natural History Museum of Auxerre presents exceptional collections of minerals and fossils, animals, plants and shells, including those collected by Paul Bert and Gustave Cotteau.

Open daily from 13:30 to 17:30, except on Saturdays and bank holidays.
Annual closure from December the 24th to January the 1st.

Admission is free.

The particularity of this museum is to present three temporary exhibitions per year: two are at the beginning of each school semester, and for the third, the museum opens its doors to one or more artists.

As an examples, in 2008-2009, the temporary exhibition 'Genetically Modified Organisms: seeds of discord' was displayed beside the exhibition 'Stones Splinter'.
