Sword Beach is a beach that is 8km long.
The attack was primarily focused at Hermanville-sur-Mer and Lion-sur-Mer.
Allied forces were represented by:
- The 8th British Brigade (belonging to the 3rd Infantry Division),
- The 1st British Corps,
- The British Commandos of the 1st Brigade of Special Services,
- The 4th battalion of French marines commanded by Commander Kieffer,
all commanded by British Lieutenant General John Crocker.

Hermanville-sur-Mer is located at 250km of Paris.
From Paris, take the highway A13. Take the exit 29B towards Dozule, Cabourg, Dives, Houlgate with th roads D400 and D27.
At Varaville, take the D513 towards Le Mesnil, and still in the same direction, towards Benouville and Colleville-Montgomery to reach Hermanville-sur-Mer.
